1. JOB DETAILS:
Job Title: Ballast Wagon Operator
Reports to: Section Supervisor
Department: Track Maintenance

2. JOB PURPOSE:
Lead teams safely in all aspects of Track Maintenance, follow direction from the Section Supervisor or
Engineer so that work is undertaken safely, compliantly and optimizing productivity

4. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Description Performance Indicators

1. Establish and maintain appropriate safety arrangements for
staff under your control including Contractors.
2. Carry out work safely and in accordance with the safe
systems of work procedures, method statements or other
relevant instructions.
3. Undertake work and associated duties for which you are
trained and competent.
4. Undertake and direct work activities in a safe and efficient
manner and in accordance with all relevant standards.
5. Control and check the quality of work undertaken and
confirm assets are compliant to standards.
6. Check that the staff under your control have appropriate
and valid competencies.
7. Check that vehicles, plant, tools, equipment and materials
under your control are fit for use and are used/ stored and
disposed of correctly.
8. Accurately report all work completed/not completed and
produce/maintain records as required.
10. Adhere to company policies and procedures.

5. JOB CONTEXT:
• The purpose of the role is to undertake Ballast wagons operation activities such as Loading and
unloading of Ballast with efficient manner.
• Monitor wagon operations and adjustment as necessary.
• Inspect and maintain hopper machinery and equipment to ensure optimal performance.
• Record wagon inventory and report any discrepancies or issues.
• Have proper Team Coordination.
• Work safely and compliantly to SAR Standards and Procedures.

6. COMMUNICATIONS & WORKING RELATIONSHIPS (ILLUSTRATIVE NOT EXHAUSTIVE):
Internal: Section Supervisor, Assistant Section Supervisor and other staff including OCC
External: Third parties

7. FRAMEWORKS, BOUNDARIES, & DECISION MAKING AUTHORITY:
Must be able to make relevant decisions regarding safety of staff and work content

8. QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, & COMPETENCIES:
QUALIFICATIONS – ITI with English speaking.

EXPERIENCE – Minimum 5 Years Ballast wagons Operation & maintenance experience.
COMPETENCIES – Certification in above activities is must from authorized agency.
