SHIFT SUPERVISOR

Minimum 8 years of experience in process operations, including at least 5 years experience on relevant units within the section. Ideally the jobholder will be educated to G.C.S.E. “A” Level or HND in technical subject (preferably Chemical Engineering) however various combinations of education & experience are acceptable. b. Must be able to oversee and operate the section as an entity and take appropriate action in emergency situations. Must have detailed knowledge of all Process and Utility systems in the section and all Refinery interconnecting systems. Must have a good working knowledge of DCS (Distributed Control System) / Analogue Control system, Advanced Control equipment, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC’s) and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems. d. Must have a thorough knowledge of Company standards and practices relating to Fire, Health, Safety & Environment, PSM, Quality, Personnel and Training. e. The position holder must be well organized and have good leadership and decision-making skills. f. The jobholder must also be a clear thinker who can remain level-headed and capable of responding to emergency / potentially life-threatening situations on a 24 hour basis. Instructs and guides unit crews for achieving target throughput following best operating practices & procedures. b. Makes detailed inspection of all units to ensure operating instructions and procedures are correctly & conscientiously complied with, equipment are correctly operated & maintained in a safe & efficient manner and a good standard of housekeeping is enforced in the units. c. Initiates actions to improve yields and/or to check & rectify off specification results. Monitors consumption of chemicals, catalysts, lubricants and consumables used to ensure economic usage. d. Checks and updates status of all maintenance work in progress within the section to ensure maximum availability of critical as well as standby equipment Produces and issues Unavailable Equipment List on a weekly basis and forwards this to section Operations Specialist. e. Approves Hot Work Permits after consulting senior staff and issues work permits for critical jobs (crane permits, confined space permits and special hazard permits). Ensures compliance with company’s Permit to Work system, safe work practises, guidelines & standards. f. Exercises personal control to make decisions and take immediate action to alleviate / mitigate emergencies, abnormal or critical conditions with no prior approval (including unit shutdown) in order to safeguard the integrity of equipment and personnel & minimize impact of such situations. g. Checks and reports on the training of personnel, prepares appraisals and conducts tests to monitor progress and ensure competent unit manpower. Advises senior staff of any personnel related concerns including competency, training and disciplinary action issues. h. Administrates personnel related activities (vacation, sickness, time keeping) for all staff directly assigned. i. Carries out emergency checks and conducts safety talks to increase safety awareness of unit crew and establish highest safety standards. Routinely evaluates assigned staff’s knowledge and adherence to safe work practices, guidelines & standard and updates Emergency Checks file on a monthly basis.
